Gladys and the singing inspector

My name is Gladys and I am going to tell you about how today's singing lesson went.......

Today we had singing lessons with Mr. Raymond, it was horrible!
Mr. Raymond is the school singing inspector. He comes every 4 weeks to check if the school is giving good lessons. I hate him! Sometimes I just want to say to him that he can't make me do anything, but I can't say that because I freeze and go blank whenever he speaks to me.

Today Mr. Raymond asked us to start with warming up our voices. We started with the do re me exercise. Next we did the tata tete stuff that I personally think has no point of doing. My tongue gets twisted whenever I even attempt to do it. After all that warming up, Mr. Raymond asked us to sing.

First he called out Benny and Charles. He asked them to sing any random song that came to their head. At first they hesitated and then said to Mr. Raymond that they don't know any song. Mr. Raymond said what can you sing? He had an angry look on his face, so the boys decided to just sing pretty Polly. They both sang terribly! Charles sang in a low sort of voice and Benny sang in a high squeaky voice. My friends and I all really wanted to laugh, but we were to scared to. In the middle of the verse the two boys stopped. Mr. Raymond shouted, "Waste of time, waste of time!, two voiceless idiots in a singing class! Send them out!" I felt really sorry for them because Mr. Raymond was very harsh.

Next he called Jesse and she sang a nice song. Then he called Iris and I. Iris and I were trying to hide behind the other singing pupils but he still saw us. I was terrified of Mr. Raymond and not a sound would come out of my mouth! I was shaking and I felt like I was about to pass out. Mr Raymond suddenly said, "Where are your voices? What have we here the deaf and dumb?" I was so angry with the terrible Mr. Raymond that I even felt like calling him a horrible bully! I kept on hearing bells ringing in my ears and I felt like my mouth was glued together.
Mr. Raymond was so mad that he wouldn't even speak to us, so he sent us back into the crowd of shaking and quivering children.
Next he called Winnie and Gladys Long over and said that they must help us, 'the paralyzed mutes'.

After the singing lesson I had a long talk with my daddy about how terrible Mr. Raymond is. He told me that he will send a letter to the school right away and say that I will never ever have to do doe re me ever again!

Now I will sit with Iris and the big boys and do exams without a problem in the world. I really feel sorry for the other girls and boys who still have to deal with the dreadful Mr. Raymond.
