My special possession
I have a special possession, it is beautiful and cuddly. It has stars on its ears and beautiful eyes as purple as the beautiful lavenders Miss Crous has in her class. It was with me at camp when I felt alone and my best friend grabbed it for me during the evacuation at camp. It has a heart that beats with complete joy. How I love its fluffy fur which is as fluffy as a cloud in the sky. It helps me feel better when I'm sad and it makes me feel secure. I will never ever separate from it!

The Yummy Pie/ : #100WC, Challenge 3/17
I walked to the kitchen and I smelt something nice. I asked my mom what it was. She said she was cooking dinner and that its a surprise. I hate surprises! I went to my bedroom feeling annoyed.
Later I smelt it again. This time I went to take a look. Mom was at the shops so I looked at the oven. I saw a chicken and mushroom pie. It made me feel hungry.
Later Mom came home and we had the pie for supper. I pretended that I never saw it and I was surprised. It was very yummy!

The Everyday Life of a Child In An Informal Settlement
I am a child that lives in Dunoon. My name is Motpolo and I am 9.
My life is a misery, I wake up in the morning to no breakfast. I live in a shack, it is only as big as a bathroom. We have a large whole in the roof so when it rains we get very cold and wet because it falls through the roof and seeps through the cracks. Occasionally in the morning, if we can afford it then I get plain dry white bread. I don't get dressed because I only have one pair of clothes which are a pair of shorts and a top. I get really cold. After that I go to school. My parents really struggle to afford to keep me in school. School is something that is really important to a child's education. I have to walk all the way to school barefoot because we can't afford transport and there are not any busses or taxis around. School is the worst place ever as there are only 10 text books for 50 children. We have to share one between 5 children! Most other children get to open up a fully packed lunch box at break time, but we get nothing. I wish that my mom and dad would work so we could afford everything we need. They can't because my mom needs to look after me and my dad is blind. Whenever one of us is sick we have to line up in a cue at the hospital that is so long we have to wait there for the whole day.
After school I walk home. There is a field that we try to leave open and not build any shacks on down the road. My friends and I usually go play soccer there. A bit further down the road lives an old man who used to be rich. He isn't rich anymore because during apartheid he lost all his money. Luckily he had a soccer ball that we use. When I go to bed at night I share my bed with my 3 other brothers. All my brothers fight over the dinner, lunch and breakfast and then sometimes I'm left to starve.
I wish that I was old enough to work or that my older brothers would. I would love to see Dunoon without litter and everything lying around. It is a very dirty place and we have 1 toilet per a street. When I am older I am going to change all of this, I am going to give my family what they need by working. If I could change things, then I would try get more toilets, tribute money towards the schools that need text books and desks etc.,get good food for my family and get people to stop littering and to take pride in the area. It would also be wonderful if Dunoon could look cleaner. I would love to see people build their houses neater and not put public toilets in the middle of the road or outside their houses.

Gladys and the singing inspector
My name is Gladys and I am going to tell you about how today's singing lesson went.......
Today we had singing lessons with Mr. Raymond, it was horrible!
Mr. Raymond is the school singing inspector. He comes every 4 weeks to check if the school is giving good lessons. I hate him! Sometimes I just want to say to him that he can't make me do anything, but I can't say that because I freeze and go blank whenever he speaks to me.
Today Mr. Raymond asked us to start with warming up our voices. We started with the do re me exercise. Next we did the tata tete stuff that I personally think has no point of doing. My tongue gets twisted whenever I even attempt to do it. After all that warming up, Mr. Raymond asked us to sing.
First he called out Benny and Charles. He asked them to sing any random song that came to their head. At first they hesitated and then said to Mr. Raymond that they don't know any song. Mr. Raymond said what can you sing? He had an angry look on his face, so the boys decided to just sing pretty Polly. They both sang terribly! Charles sang in a low sort of voice and Benny sang in a high squeaky voice. My friends and I all really wanted to laugh, but we were to scared to. In the middle of the verse the two boys stopped. Mr. Raymond shouted, "Waste of time, waste of time!, two voiceless idiots in a singing class! Send them out!" I felt really sorry for them because Mr. Raymond was very harsh.
Next he called Jesse and she sang a nice song. Then he called Iris and I. Iris and I were trying to hide behind the other singing pupils but he still saw us. I was terrified of Mr. Raymond and not a sound would come out of my mouth! I was shaking and I felt like I was about to pass out. Mr Raymond suddenly said, "Where are your voices? What have we here the deaf and dumb?" I was so angry with the terrible Mr. Raymond that I even felt like calling him a horrible bully! I kept on hearing bells ringing in my ears and I felt like my mouth was glued together.
Mr. Raymond was so mad that he wouldn't even speak to us, so he sent us back into the crowd of shaking and quivering children.
Next he called Winnie and Gladys Long over and said that they must help us, 'the paralyzed mutes'.
After the singing lesson I had a long talk with my daddy about how terrible Mr. Raymond is. He told me that he will send a letter to the school right away and say that I will never ever have to do doe re me ever again!
Now I will sit with Iris and the big boys and do exams without a problem in the world. I really feel sorry for the other girls and boys who still have to deal with the dreadful Mr. Raymond.
