Grade 6 Super Hero or Villain Project

In Design and Technology this year, we are doing a super hero and villain project.

We chose our partner who we wanted to work with for this project. We were given the opportunity to choose a villain or a super hero that we were going to create. My partner, Sienna and I chose to do a villain. We created a pineapple villain which we named Sweet and Sour. We planned what our character would look like and then we created it out of plasticine.

Our next step was to create a 30 second Stop-Motion animation including our character and including some other extra characters and objects. Our extra characters' names are Princess Apple Pie and Banana Split.

Our character, Sweet and Sour is a mean pineapple who is really mad that he doesn't grow on a tree. He wants to destroy the tree because he is very jealous of the fruit that is fortunate enough to grow on the tree. He uses his spikes to destroy the tree and his jumping boots and sticky arms to get up the tree.

Wonder-ful Book

In class, during English, we are reading Wonder. Wonder is a stunning book that really touches my heart. Whenever my teacher says that we must take out our Wonder books to read some, I get very excited.

I really enjoyed the fact that Auggie was brave enough to try go to school. He was home schooled his whole life because of all his surgeries, but now he is finally starting middle school, Grade 5. He had trouble finding friends, but there was one girl named Summer who came to sit with him at lunch one day. She did not care what her other friends thought and tried to become friends with him. That really stood out for me, it made me very happy.

This story has made me become more aware of people who have facial problems. When I say aware, I mean to not stare or treat them in any different way to how we are treated. They are human, the same person inside and can be awesome friends.

I think that Via, Auggie's sister, is a lot like me. I am very protective over my brother and I want him to always be happy. He has food allergies and I always make sure that he eats the right things because I care about him a lot. If something is troubling him I will always try to make it right.

I am so eager to finish the book because I always want to know what is going to happen next. I, without a doubt, recommend that every child should definitely read this wonderful book. Remember, always treat people in a nice way, even if they look different to you, they are the same inside. Choose kind!

Poetry ILT

Last week all of the grade 6s participated in a fun ILT all about poetry. ILT stands for Integrated Learning Task and it goes on for 3 days.

Poetry is words creating a piece of writing that tries to speak to you in ways that normal writing doesn't. People write poetry because they want to convey a message, poets put their thoughts on a piece of paper and share their feelings with the readers.

Over the last three days we did many tasks in groups like, the poetry slam where we wrote our own poems and performed them to the class or the grade with actions and movements, the coral verse where we learnt a poem and created a piece on it which we did with our drama teacher, a vocabulary presentation where we learnt vocabulary that has to do with poetry and we also did poetry writing where we wrote all different types of poems (I had to write a Haiku poem all about feelings). We did some individual tasks too like, blackout poetry where we had to construct a poem using a page of a book (I used a page from Wonder),analyzing poems where we had to answer some questions about poems and imagery where we had to draw a picture of  what we thought of when we read a poem. Last but not least, at the end of the ILT we did some self reflection by ourselves.

My favourite activity was the poetry slam because I really enjoy writing poems and I enjoy Drama. It was very fun to create actions and movements for our own poem that we wrote. I was in a group with Michelle and Mikayla, we wrote the poem that is in the picture below. Mikayla is a new girl in our school so it was nice to learn a bit about her. My worst activity was the poetry writing task, the poetry writing part was fun but the keynote part wasn't because one of the girls in my group went to music and then the WiFi went of. The most challenging activity was the blackout poetry because it was difficult to create a poem with a page from a book. Even though it was difficult, I really enjoyed it.

Performing in front of others is not a big problem for me. Sometimes I get a little bit nervous, but I still manage to do it. I learnt some new vocabulary like the words, stanza, personification, consonance, assonance, analogy, figurative language and literal language. During this ILT I discovered my love for writing poems and now I write many at home.

Dance, Sing, Act, Musical Theatre

I love to dance, sing and act!

Recently I did the Broadway Bootcamp at the Artscape Theatre in town. It had a lot of dancing in it. We did tap, jazz, ballet, along with siging, acting, and we learnt a Musical Theatre piece from Hairspray. I made some new friends and I had a great time. Matthew Prescott, a famous choreographer came from New York, Joffrey Ballet School and he taught us Jazz. We auditioned to get into the Joffrey Ballet School summer intensives and I got a 25% scholarship for New York and London!

Dance

I love dance! Its my favourite past time. I do Modern Dancing and Ballet. We do exams and we do Eisteddfods. About a year ago I took part in Dance Stars SA and I went to Johannesburg to do the Alberton Eisteddfod. In ballet, I am busy preparing for my next exam, Grade 4. In modern we are preparing for the Celebration of Dance Eisteddfod. I want to be a dance teacher when I grow up.

Sing

I do singing lessons at school with Sandi and I have been doing singing since Grade 1. Sometimes I write my own songs at home because I find it very fun.

Act

I recently started drama at The Drama Lab and we are doing a play called Into The Woods and we are  doing the Junior version. I am Little Red Riding Hood. Julie, our drama teacher is very nice.

My special possession

My special possession

I have a special possession, it is beautiful and cuddly. It has stars on its ears and beautiful eyes as   purple as the beautiful lavenders Miss Crous has in her class. It was with me at camp when I felt alone and my best friend grabbed it for me during the evacuation at camp. It has a heart that beats with complete joy. How I love its fluffy fur which is as fluffy as a cloud in the sky. It helps me feel better when I'm sad and it makes me feel secure. I will never ever separate from it!

The Yummy Pie/ : #100WC, Challenge 3/17

I walked to the kitchen and I smelt something nice. I asked my mom what it was. She said she was cooking dinner and that its a surprise. I hate surprises! I went  to my bedroom feeling annoyed.

Later I smelt it again. This time I went to take a look. Mom was at the shops so I looked at the oven. I saw a chicken and mushroom pie. It made me feel hungry.

Later Mom came home and we had the pie for supper. I pretended that I never saw it and I was surprised. It was very yummy!
